…Worms, live

August 10th, 2006

I first heard …Worms after being sent a demo of their debut 7″ on Portland’s Marriage Records and we played a song on one of our earlier shows. But I didn’t fully understand how huge and important to the local scene this band is until seeing them live at the PDX Pop fest.

Growing up in a smallish town in Alabama, attending to punk shows was one of only a very few things that could compete with the Waffle House for my misspent teenage evening hours. The completely fucked musical vocabulary that I was steeped in while damaging my ears through some 100+ hardcore shows helps me appreciate this band even more. …Worms is drawing from that early 90s Maximum Rock n’ Roll American tradition, but doing so more intelligently and charismatically than even the champs from that era. The Queers are coming to town this week, but I could hardly give a shit. I want to see …Worms play again. For more about the band, check this write-up by the Portland Mercury’s Garrett Strickland. And get their release on Marriage Records. That website is down for the moment, so check back soon.

Enjoy this.
